#TIA – It’s hard to judge how far marijuana has come in its conquest of US culture, but here’s a new benchmark
“Last month, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the first drug based on compounds found in marijuana. Epidiolex, a breakthrough medicine for two forms of severe childhood epilepsy, is a fruit-flavored liquid that contains cannabidiol—better known as CBD.
The move shines a spotlight on CBD as a rapidly rising star, both in clinical uses and within the “wellness” industry. It may even be on the cusp of a sea change in the US: As the Washington Post reports, the Drug Enforcement Administration could soon grant CBD products a separate classification from marijuana and its psychoactive ingredient, THC, potentially clearing a path for its entrée into the mainstream.”
